On this day - Christmas 1972
Train smashes through buffers in Hull
In the early morning of Christmas Day, 1972, the good folk of Springbank in Kingston upon Hull awoke to find, not Santa's Sleigh parked in front of their houses, but the stranded hulk of the 0500 express from London to Hull, untidily straddling the junction of Spring bank and Prince's Avenue. No-one was hurt in the accident but it certainly provided something to talk about over Christmas dinner!
